Oshkosh Diary

by Bob Collins

Oshkosh has become more of a social visit for me over the last few years. I rarely watch the air show anymore, except if I'm sitting at the campsite, and I only make about one pass through the exhibit halls. Sure, I know I'm supposed to put an engine
at the front of my airplane.

The RVs of Oshkosh

Wayne Pederson's rudderThe RV corral at Oshkosh was expanded again this year, but it was still a tight squeeze to get the hundreds of RVs in. See a Flash slideshow with dozens and dozens of "show"-quality RVs we found at Oshkosh 2007.

Digital Flight Deck poised to revolutionize your panel

The DigitalFlightDeck ™ was conceived by pilots, not electronic geeks. It is a simple-to-operate, simple-to-connect, pilot-adjustable, aircraft-adjustable fully integrated modular system that turns any plane into a SmartPlane ™.

Utilizing a universal display means low cost and easy installation plus streamlined uniform cockpit looks. Plug ’n play connections, shared data by all instruments and a modular remote "brainbox" mounted behind the panel permits a super lightweight cockpit with built-in battery backup and easy USB updates. And of course it is fully customizable to the specific aircraft and its procedures and limitations by the pilot on his home PC. Pricing is a fraction of the Industry Titans who even charge you to learn how to use their complex products!

Slow to Press

Yes, we're a little light on content this time around.  Please accept my apology.  Time was very short this week.  I'll be sorting through my material as well as the many other places where news and info has been posted on Oshkosh.  You can expect more Oshkosh coverage in next week's issue as well as plenty of the usual extensive RV and homebuilt news.  Thanks for reading!

Airventure Report

Back from AirVenture

The Hotline arrives late today as I scramble to get organized after my week of travel.

I arrived home from Oshkosh on Thursday, a day later than I expected due to a delayed flight on NorthWest Airlines out of Madison, WI. I arrived at Camp Schoeller on Saturday around noon in my rental car. The weather was sunny and hot... gorgeous! I spent all day Sunday through Tuesday taking in as much as I could. Wednesday I only got part of the day as I had to break camp at 1PM in order to make it to the airport for my early evening (scheduled) departure. Madison is about an hour and a half by rental car from Whittman field (home of the Big Show).

I have a huge amount of video footage, stories and digital photography. Lots and lots of RV stuff. It will take a little time to wade through it all but I'm looking forward to sharing it all via the Hotline over the next few weeks. If you didn't go to Oshkosh I hope you enjoy this content and I hope you get a chance to go next year. As they say, "You gotta be there!"
